UpDate on Mom!

Hello Everyone,  First of all I want to thank all of you who are remembering my Mom in your prayers.  She continues to need them so very much.  The hip surgery we believe is a wonderful success.  I suppose since she is three years older than the last hip surgery, this time recovery is going abit slower. She has now been back in Lincoln at Eastmont Nursing Home for one week tomorrow.  It has been a week of adjustment for everyone.  It is always better to be in your own home with your familiar surroundings.  However we understand that this is not yet possible for Mom. We have had struggles getting Mom's daily medications to be correct and in the computer so she is able to get them when she needs them.  Seems like there are so many more regulations concerning this, even with her eye medications which are for the most part over the counter.  Mom has glaucoma and severe dry eye which requires regular medication.  The glaucoma medication is prescription. She has always done this herself but now the nurses have to dispense it unless she wants to have a locked box by her side to do it herself.  That would be fine too except that because of Mom's arthritic fingers she is unable to get the little lock box open.  Argh!!!  We do understand the reason for these regulations and why they are in place.  It is just the living of them out that is a struggle.  She needs the drops every two hours during the day and the ointment before bed.  Well, needless to say we continue to need your remembrance of us in your prayers.  The pain factors seems to be abit worse as well, but this time she is having a struggle with fluid accumulating in the leg that the hip was replaced.  This is common they have told us, but because of that in part she has entered into the home as a partial weight bearing patient.  This means that instead of the 2-3 weeks she was planning on, she will be there 4-6 weeks. In the long run this will be best for Mom and we understand that too .It is just she doesn't want to stay that long.  I know you all understand so well about care homes.  They are wonderful places when that is what is needed, and we are so very thankful for the help Mom is receiving there.  It is such a challenge though right now.  Bottom line is I am SO very grateful to the Lord Jesus for sustaining my Mother thru her surgery and I continue to look to Him for support during this time in our lives.  We are hopeful that maybe tomorrow or Tuesday Mom will get the okay to walk to the bathroom by herself with her walker.  She hasn't had the strength quite yet to do that on her own as she tends to fall backward while trying to go forward holding onto the walker.  I believe that this will help her to see that improvement is happening and it won't be all that long until she will be able to go home.  I believe that for her to go home sooner would take an unbelievable toll on my Father and while I'm sure he would always step up to the plate, I know at this time he should not. Because of his leukemia his stamina isn't what is used to be. Thanks again for remembering Mom and also my Dad.  The Lord is so good.
